TBT and DAYFPP / by Anna Rae

In the summer of 2009 I was spending the summer in Portland Maine working on my MFA thesis. Right on Casco Bay, the atmosphere was equally engaging in regards to space and activities. My partner at the time was lucky enough to be able to work remotely and accompanied me in the surprisingly gorgeous dorm room, where the floor was gritty hardwood, the grout; salt and sand. We had driven out east with his used red Volkswagen Jetta 2003. It was a pretty comfortable 14 hour drive and the car was stuffed to the gills with materials for our summer. I remember he had spent 1K on getting the car tweaked for the drive and, of course, the car broke down in the middle of the road a few weeks after we got there. While I was at school he drove to the closest VW dealership, in Falmouth, to get it checked out.  While he was out there, he passed a forest with trails that he noted for a surprise adventure for us. We drove out there and parked.  I remember taking a quick look to my right and seeing this gorgeous, unreal & misty pathway. A perfect straight path with perfect trees lining it. The trees bending towards the middle. It was breathtaking and I felt like I was in one of any the fairy tales I was over analyzing for my work.
